1. Did you choose the writing profession or did it choose you? I chose to write when I the company where I was working was downsizing, and I decided to try something I always wanted to do.
2. What is your background? (education, work, etc.) Master’s and Post graduate courses in Education; I was a teacher, principal, speaker, and promotional designer for a textbook company, and now I work as a pastoral associate at a Catholic Church.
3. When did you ‘know’ you were a writer? When I recognized a technique I had used while reading one of Mary Higgins Clark’s book.
4. How would you describe your style of writing? “cozy” mystery with a conversion theme
5. What is your writing process? I know the beginning and end, and loosely use an outline to construct the middle.
6. What was your path to publication? About a year of searching for a publisher, many rejections, almost succeeding and receiving the most encouraging rejection ever, and perseverance until I found my present publisher.
7. What is your favorite self-marketing idea? Giving a presentation about my book, or being interviewed.
8. What are the biggest surprises you’ve encountered as a writer? The support and “awe” when people realize you’re a published author.
9. How do you inspire yourself? What are your sources of creativity? I am inspired by the need for conversion in the lives of many connected with the Church. My sources of creativity are my imagination, other’s stories, and even TV.
10. What is your proudest writer moment? The day my brother held up my first book to show it to the family; he had ordered it without telling me.
11. What’s the best advice you were given about writing? Persevere!
12. What is your most embarrassing writer moment? Having someone say they haven’t finished my book yet. I don’t like to think that anyone can put it down!
13. What business challenges have you faced as a writer? Getting publicity.
14. What is your writer life philosophy? I believe I have stories to tell to help people understand a loving God, and novels have a better chance of doing that than a theology book.
15. When you’re not writing what do you do for fun? Read, watch TV (especially mysteries), visit family, play games with my nieces and nephews.
16. Who do you like to read? Mary Higgins Clark, Andrew Greeley, Edwina Gately, Mitch Finley
17. What’s your advice for new writers? Persevere, write something every day
